Plate Type & Pack Size

Build your own lamellar armor with our Visby plates. Lace them into a vest for SCA events, add shoulders to your LARP kit, or start a medieval-inspired suit from scratch. Choose stainless steel, aluminum or titanium and lay out the rows to fit the armor you want to wear.

The Visby name recalls the armor finds from the 1361 battle on Gotland.

Quality in every plate

  • Industrial laser precision. Every plate is cut on an industrial laser for consistent geometry and clean edges with micron level precision.
  • Thorough tumble finishing. Plates are media tumbled to smooth cut edges, round corners, and create a clean matte finish.
  • Final quality control. We check every plate by hand as we pack them making sure only the best make it to you.
  • A little extra. We always pack a few extra pieces per 100 just to make sure. If for some reason a plate or two make it through QC, don't worry you got more than you ordered in your shipment.

Choose your plate shapes

  • Normal: 100 plates, each about 2.75 inches tall by 0.87 inch wide.
  • Half: 25 plates.
  • Center: 10 plates.
  • Center half: 5 plates.

Pick a material and a shape from the options above. The drawings show the size and hole layout of each shape.

Pick your material

  • 304 stainless steel: 1.2 mm / 0.048 inch. Our economical steel option. A good way to build in stainless while leaving more of your budget for the rest of your kit.
  • Heat-treated 410 stainless steel: 1.0 mm / 0.040 inch. Hardened and tempered for toughness, with the darker look heat treatment can give the steel. We tumble it before and after heat treatment; color and finish vary between batches.
  • 6061-T6 aluminum: 1.6 mm / 0.063 inch. The lightest plates we offer. Pick aluminum for long days in kit, LARP builds, or simply keeping the load down.
  • Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5) Titanium: 1.0 mm / approximately 0.040 inch. Our premium pick for titanium toughness and less weight to carry. For the build you want to go all out on.

How much weight does titanium save?

100 normal Visby titanium plates weigh about 590 g (1.30 lb). That is about 51% lighter than our 304 stainless and 38% lighter than our hardened 410 stainless normal plates at the thicknesses listed above. Across a full suit of armor, that is a lot less weight to carry.

For combat builds, choose your material and construction to suit your group's armor rules.

Titanium: cut to order and market priced

Our 1 mm Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5) Titanium plates are cut to order. Titanium prices reflect the cost of each batch of material we receive and may change as new material arrives. The listed price applies when you place your order.

Weight per 100 normal plates

  • 304 stainless: about 1,197 g / 2.64 lb.
  • 410 stainless: about 956 g / 2.11 lb.
  • Aluminum: about 424 g / 0.93 lb.
  • Titanium: about 590 g / 1.30 lb.

These weights are for the normal Visby shape and may vary a little between batches.

Planning your build

Use the to get a starting count for your build. The final number depends on your measurements, how much you overlap the plates, and how much of your body you want the armor to cover.

Lacing your plates

We use 5/32-inch paracord in our sample builds. For normal Visby plates, start with about 3.5 inches (90 mm) of cord per plate and leave extra for knots and finishing. Your lacing pattern may use more.
